Tiered Pools of Tolantongo
Six natural pools carved into living limestone, arranged in cascade along the canyon. Thermal water at 36°C (97°F) with panoramic views of the 800-meter canyon.
What are the tiered pools like?
The tiered pools of Tolantongo are six natural pools arranged in descending cascade on the canyon wall. Each pool overflows into the next, creating a continuous flow of thermal water at 36°C (97°F) that runs down the rock formation from top to bottom.
The pools are carved directly into limestone: their edges, floors, and walls are 100% natural. The calcium carbonate dissolved in the thermal water slowly deposits layers of travertine that gradually modify the shape of each pool, making no two pools alike.
The highest pool offers direct views of the 800-meter canyon and is the most photographed spot at the destination. Access between pools is via rock stairs and maintained pathways.
💧 Constant flowing water
Each pool overflows into the next, ensuring continuous circulation and always clean water.
📐 Varying depths
From 30 cm pools for children to pools 1.2 m deep for adults.
