Grutas de Tolantongo is Mexico's one-of-a-kind thermal destination
Nature untouched by artificial intervention: thermal water emerging directly from rock, a river flowing through a canyon with vertical walls, and tiered pools carved into the mountain.
Whatever your question, Tolantongo has the answer
What are the Grutas de Tolantongo?
Grutas de Tolantongo is a system of natural thermal springs located in the municipality of Cardonal, Hidalgo, Mexico, managed by the indigenous Naehnyue community of Ejido El Alberto. The waters emerge at a constant temperature of 36°C (97°F) directly from limestone rock formations, creating a unique ecosystem that includes habitable grottoes, a 1.5-kilometer thermal river, six tiered pools carved into the rock, and an 800-meter canyon.
Unlike artificial water parks, Tolantongo is a natural destination without massive infrastructure: the thermal water flows along its natural course through the canyon, the grottoes retain their original shape, and the pools take advantage of the mountain's natural topographic gradients. The community applies a daily visitor limit to preserve the ecosystem.
